The article covers the issues related to characteristics, application, and some methods of rare earth elements (REEs) recovery from coal fly ashes. REEs are with growing demand a very wide range especially when it comes modern technologies. conducted analysis price forecast proved existing upward tendency, this confirmed need search for new REE sources, among industrial waste (proecological effect). development technology would involve solving several problems speciation, optimization factors controlling their extractivity selection separation method obtained extraction solutions extreme pH complicated composition. paper presented advantages disadvantages usually used ashes, like physical acid–base leaching. It was also alternative techniques in form membrane biological based on ion liquids (ILs) or chelating agents. directions further modifications, which will allow efficient were presented. aim propose specific creation appropriate multistage recovery. be combination magnetic size separation, leaching (including roasting justified cases), removal matrix ILs (Al, Si, Fe), finally allowing one obtain process efficiency.
